What an exciting week in Hoover and Metro Birmingham!

New Enjoy Hoover magazine! The World Games! Hoover World Games Kickoff Party at Brock’s Gap Brewing Company! Hoover Restaurant Week! Lots of thinking are happening in Hoover!

We just launched the ALL NEW Enjoy Hoover magazine. You can find the magazine at hotels, restaurants, and businesses throughout Hoover. We will have them stocked at the Hoover Public Library, Cafe 59 at Lee Branch, and The Whole Scoop Ice Cream. The new magazine (6 issues a year) and updated website will bring you all things fun and food in Hoover! It is for visitors and residents looking for something to do or experience in Hoover.

The World is coming to Birmingham!

The Birmingham Metro hosts The World Games. The best athletes from around the world will gather from July 7-17 to compete in various sports around the Metro. The World Games comes with an Alabama Star-studed Opening and Closing Ceremonies. Performers include Hoover’s own Taylor Hicks and other American Idol stars, Bo Bice and Ruben Studded. Closing Ceremony performance by Lionel Richie. Plus, many local choirs and considerable fanfare are expected at both ceremonies.

Hoover is hosting a World Games Kick-Off Party on Friday, July 8th, from 11-11, with bands beginning at 2 pm and family activities later in the day.

The City of Hoover will host, what many are saying, will be the biggest World Games event- ladies softball! The USA plays nightly. Team USA hopes to see Japan in the final round to take the title and gold. So make plans to attend this and all the other great World Games events. This event is truly a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for the people of Alabama.

The softball event is scheduled as follows:

  • Saturday July 9, 10 AM – 3 PM Puerto Rico vs. Mexico, Chinese Taipei vs. Canada
  • Saturday July 9, 4 PM – 9 PM Australia vs. Japan, USA vs. Italy
  • Sunday July 10, 10 AM – 3 PM Mexican vs. Japan, Italy vs. Canada
  • Sunday July 10, 4 PM – 9 PM Puerto Rico vs. Australia, Chinese Taipei vs. the USA
  • Monday July 11, 10 AM – 3 PM Australia vs. Mexico, Italy vs. Chinese Taipei
  • Monday July 11, 4 PM – 9 PM Japan vs. Puerto Rico, Canada vs. the USA
  • Tuesday July 12, 10 AM – 3 PM 2 Games: Consolation Rounds
  • Tuesday July 12, 4 PM – 9 PM 2 Games: Semifinals
  • Wednesday July 13, 10 AM – 3 PM 2 Games: Placement Games
  • Wednesday July 13, 4 PM – 6 PM 1 Game: 3rd Place
  • Wednesday July 13, 8 PM – 10:10 PM 1 Game: Finals/Medal Ceremony
